Yoga therapy is known to be one of those few methods of treatment that can actually alter the way of life for the better. It is an age old method of exercise and meditation that can heal various health complications pertaining to mental conditions, physical complications and digestive problems. Peptic ulcer is one particular condition that can be treated very well with yoga therapy. However, this concept has been under pressure since the last few decades as peptic ulcers are fast growing to be the most prevalent digestive disorders.  It is also known as Acid Peptic Disease or APD.

Acid Peptic Disease or APD or Peptic ulcer is basically an inflamed condition of the inner lining of our stomach and is caused due to acid peptic digestion.  This means that a continuous conflict persists in the stomach’s inner lining which results in irritation due to certain germs. Peptic ulcer also has typical symptoms that an actually make the disease more evident. The disease is characterized by a flaming pain that occurs in our upper abdominal regions. The pain usually strikes when the stomach is empty.

The exact cause of peptic ulcer, like every other digestive disorder, is a mystery. Family history or genes can be one of the probable causes for the development of the disease.  This genetic predisposition triggers the target organ to manifest certain internal imbalances, which initially takes off in the mind only to affect the organs later on. Yogic science refers to this as Manomaya and Pranayama Kosa.

Yoga also helps in maintaining a proper balance between the body and the mind of individuals and the word itself refers to “union of the body and the mind for healthy living”.  Yoga addresses every organ of the body and can not only treat peptic ulcer, but also every other form of digestive problems that you might experience.  It can be rightly said that yoga can actually relieve you from any long term ailments.

Gastrointestinal disorders are very much regular these days and can be effectively healed with yoga exercises. There are various forms and postures of exercises for treating different digestive disorders. These are known as “asana” in yogic terms and can effectively treat irritable bowel syndrome or IBS, constipation, diarrhea, heartburns etc. Yoga when combined with Ayurveda can have great effects on the mind and body and completely cure various problems related to the stomach and the intestines.

While practicing yoga, you would be taught the different positions of asana and the breathing techniques; both of these techniques must be followed religiously as these are to be implemented in combination for better results. However, as with allopathic medicines, the results tend to show within a few days of treatment, but with yoga, it would take some time to give you the ultimate relief.  But yoga therapies can provide long term solutions whereas any other treatments cannot.

The ‘asana’ are to be practiced regularly for improved digestive system. Deep breathing exercises are very commonly used for increasing the flow of oxygen in your blood and brining the breathing techniques in sync. ‘Dhanurasana’ in particular is very popular for treating digestive complications and can also help in toning your stomach muscles.

Almost every digestive complication, such as ulcers, GIRD, indigestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and many more, can be easily healed with yoga therapies.
